Hi there, I’m Roel!

To describe myself in one word, I’m a hybrid – an architectural draftsman by training, passionate about 3D.

I have been working as a freelance draftsman for more than 15 years, creating technical drawings and building 3D visuals, but my interests have always gone well beyond the architecture realm.

My Story

Technology has always played a massive role in my life. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always been intrigued by the way things are made, work and look.

My passion for drawing stems from the satisfaction of creating something from scratch. And the fastest way to create something is on the drawing board. When I first started with AutoCad, I knew it was my jam. Or at least that was the case until I met 3D modeling.

Although I was drawn to 2D art at first, I started to notice more and more the advantages that 3D modeling had over 2D, especially when I decided to follow a career path that involved 3D modeling.

After some practice, 3D began showing me ways to create imagery with much more precision and appeal than 2D ever could. I believe that all drafting works will be done
in 3D in the future, for technical drawings as well as for visuals, regardless of the field.

SketchUp

I quickly discovered SketchUp – and the rest is history. It’s easy, versatile, lightning-fast, and a pleasure to work with. In 2010 Google invited me to join SketchUp Basecamp in Denver, USA, where I made many exciting contacts. That event crowned my evolution as a 3D creator. In the same year, I became an SketchUp Authorized Reseller.

Frustrations

However, I was frustrated: I always spent more time searching for suitable materials instead of drawing. I searched far and wide and bought all kinds of stuff, only to find out it would not work in SketchUp. Often, before I could find the right material of good quality and seamless enough, my inspiration was gone. Fun times, right?

Solution

As a freelance 3D artist, everything boils down to one dilemma: converting your time into money. To streamline my workflow and focus on designing, I started to build a helpful library systematically. This enabled me to shift the focus from the tools to the project. And now, I’m here to share it with you so that you can work smarter, not harder. In fewer words, I’m here to put at your disposal top-notch libraries of 3D Materials to rule them all.
